When I visited the Australian Museum (to study birds for my drawing), serendipitously I saw a beautiful masked owl.

With Photofly 2.0, I created a 3D model of the masked owl from 116 photographs that i took at the museum, cleaned the model in Maya, remeshed into a usable form (quads), projected and sculpted it to smooth out the artifacts in Zbrush and then converted to STL for 3D printing. It involved tons of experimentation, iteration and perseverance before i could get a decent result that can be sculpted and 3d printed.

So here’s Anna (my 3D character) with the masked owl. Anna was also “unioned” (in Maya) into one solid mesh and converted to STL. Both were then 3D printed.
